The Red Poppy
Taking a big break from painting gives me the creative block. Although I have been doing small ones, I tried them without really needing much creativity. Reproducing images with the same colors is rather easy compared to abstracting an idea. Imagine abstracting ‘celestial bliss’ .. Imagine the million ideas that come to your head and the creativity to compress them into a small canvas. This canvas should reflect the idea you originally imagined – the peace and the culmination of the idea into a central point in the canvas. I have been trying to get there for a long time, but that of course demands time and space. I am at almost the end of my course work and Masters and I have been meaning to pick up my paint brush for a while now. I need a solid two to three hours minimum and a space that has natural light pouring in. This weekend was ideal. It was bright and sunny and I could get my mind off of work having made a schedule for myself.
I set aside about 3 hours when the sun was still bright and shining on the Saturday. I browsed through my photo collection and picked a poppy flower to paint. I wanted to abstract the concept briefly enough to establish the idea and make it an ideal home decor. I drew out a rough sketch of the single flower and decided on the colors to use. This time I went a little bold and used textures both of the flower and to add more decorative effect. This is again not my ideal way to abstract but I wanted to create something new something different from all my other work.
