RSA and Diffie Hellman protocols are two protocols, widely used and known for its robustness and security. In spite of all the credits, these protocols are vulnerable to several attacks. Several attacks have been tried in the past and a few of them have been successful. This paper provides a survey of the common and popular attacks of RSA and Diffie Hellman. The paper discusses the literature available in the area, describing the algorithm and mathematical theories on the basis of which attacks are possible. Algorithms like Pohlig Hellman, Pollard Lambda, Number Field Sieve and possible attacks from these are discussed. For every attack discussed, a possible solution to counter the attack has also been discussed. The paper concludes with general implementation and security guidelines for each of these protocols.
