Chad Curry from CRT visits VT-ARI for BEMOSS
If you read my previous posts, you would know that I am working on an open source software platform for building energy management. The project is on for more than a year and a half now and the platform is getting more mature day by day. We also see more audience using BEMOSS and finding unique applications for BEMOSS other than the real focus of the platform itself. While more and more developers show interest in BEMOSS, we also hear from technologists and company executives who want to learn/utilize BEMOSS and their requirement.
Last week we had an interesting visitor to our research office. Chad Curry, the Managing Director at the Center for REALTOR Technology, Chicago, IL paid a visit to the BEMOSS Laboratory intending to find out what BEMOSS as an open source platform has for the realtor industry. Till that point, we obviously did not think of BEMOSS in that angle. Chad Curry’s visit threw more light on what realtors are looking for in such systems and how a platform like this can be tuned to develop applications and algorithms pertaining to the realtor industry.
As a future home buyer, when I thought about new homes and realtors, the first thought that struck me was how I would love to have a home/building automation system installed in my new home that can used even when I am away from home. I see a huge potential for open source tools in this area given that the commercial sources are overpriced and restrict the users to purchasing only from a specified list of smart devices. Imagine the convenience, energy savings/ reduced electricity bills, when you have a home that comes with a home automation system inbuilt!
Chad Curry discussed BEMOSS in the ‘Not In Service’ technology podcast. The podcast discusses some really interesting ideas. Listen to the podcast here.
